2024 Shakopee Volleyball Summer Long Skills Camp

Boys & Girls Summer-long Volleyball Skills Camp (Weeknights)

*These camps can be done along with the All-Skills Camps. (4 weeks during evenings)

Volleyball players can get training in one or all of the following specific skill areas: setting, defense/ball control and hitting/blocking. The staff of the Shakopee High School Girls Volleyball Program will be offering a 4 week comprehensive training program in which 60 minutes (90 for 10-12th graders) per week will be devoted to the fundamentals and advancement of each skill. One day per week will be designated for each skill (See schedule below).

Volleyball players can get training in one or all of the following specific skill  areas: setting, defense/ball control and hitting/blocking.

The staff of the  Shakopee High School Girls Volleyball Program will be offering a 4 week comprehensive training program in which 60 minutes (90 for 10-12th graders) per week will be devoted to  the fundamentals and advancement of each skill. One day per week will be  designated for each skill (See schedule below).

Players can choose to pay $100  to attend just one skill night for the 4 weeks, or pay $200 to attend all 3 skill nights each of the 4 weeks.

  • Girls and Boys entering 6th – 7th grade would be considered level 1.
  • Girls and Boys entering 8th – 9th grade would be considered level 2.
  • Girls and Boys entering 10th-12th grade with previous high school volleyball experience would be considered level 3.

Each of three high school coaches will  specialize with one skill.

All curriculum objectives will be collectively created  between Head Coach Matt Busch, Lisa Walker (Varsity Assistant Coach), and  Sarah Colin (JV Coach).

The camp nights will take place at Shakopee High School.

Clinics will be run by Shakopee Varsity Coach Matt Busch and assistant coaches. All grades listed are according to the 2024-2025 school year.

WHO:   Level 1: 6th - 7th graders 
            Level 2: 8th - 9th  graders 
            Level 3: 10th - 12th graders 
WHAT: One Skill Night
FEE:  $100.00

SKILL GOALS
DEFENSE: meant for players of any position hoping to improve their ball handling, court movement/awareness, serve receive and digging skills.
SETTING: meant for setters and right side players/help setters to master setting footwork, ball control, target setting, setter attacks, and setter/right side defense/blocking. Live setting with hitters will be included with Level 2 setters. Liberos should also consider attending as they are often taking the second ball in today's game.
HITTING/BLOCKING: meant for players of all front row positions hoping to improve their vertical jump, approach footwork, timing, wrist snap, shot selection and transitions between digging and hitting; blocking and hitting; and serve receive and hitting. Two Coaches will be used to work on blocking and hitting separately as well as in combined situations.

Commitment: Players can sign up for either choice and can show up for all or some of the sessions available to them (based on amount paid). Coaches do not need to be notified of missed sessions or who will be at which skill session. Summer training will be progressive, with each week beginning with a short review from previous week and then moving on to more advanced skills.  Coaches will not be expected to "catch up" players missing sessions.
