SVA Serve-a-thon

Shakopee Volleyball Association strives to support the Shakopee community through more than volleyball opportunities. Each year we host our Serve-a-thon; an association wide fundraiser honoring someone in the Shakopee community along their journey of hardship. From unexpected tragedy to challenging health diagnosis we look to come along side them. Through the generous efforts of our teams, board and community we host an event to raise money for each years' recipient.

**If you or your business would like to donate to this years Serve-a-thon you can Venmo: Shakopee Volleyball Assn
Please reference "SVA Fundraiser". Thank you!

Jim Connell

Laila Barr

2024 Recipients: Jim O’Connell and Laila Barr

Jim's Story

In a season that should be filled with joy, Jim and Sara Connell were struck with heartbreaking news just before Christmas. A trip to the ER uncovered pulmonary embolisms and a devastating spread of cancer throughout Jim's liver, lungs, peritoneum, and lymph nodes. This battle comes only a few short years after Sara, a beloved kindergarten teacher in Shakopee, courageously fought breast cancer herself. To learn more about Jim's story, please visit his CaringBridge HERE.

Laila's Story

On January 9, 2024, Laila Barr, a Pastor at Shepherd of the Lake, received her own challenging diagnosis after a routine mammogram. Despite showing no symptoms, Laila faces breast cancer. Thankfully, it was detected early, and her treatment plan included recent surgery and continued radiation. To learn more about Laila's story, please visit her CaringBridge HERE.

We invite you to join us at Shakopee Bowl on April 11th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for an evening of support for these two amazing families!
